The first matches of Northern Arena Montreal CS GO have concluded, and the day featured some nuclear Counter-Strike to say the least.

Both French squads – G2 eSports and Team EnVyUs were firing on all cylinders coming out of the gate.  Complexity did give G2 some trouble in their best-of-one, but Edouard ‘SmithZz’ Dubourdeaux truly stepped up his rifling on CT-side to give G2 the edge as they could take Cache 16-11.  Team EnVyUs and CLG’s vetoes would see Nuke become the battleground; however, it really was not much of a battle.  This one-sided affair saw CLG struggle to take control of both ramp room and outside, allowing EnVyUs to run away with the map on their CT-side alone. Counter Logic Gaming would fall flat and suffer a 16-3 defeat to the boys in blue.

Heroic and OpTic both delivered stunningly strong performances in their BO1s against Liquid and NRG respectively.  While Tarik “tarik” Celik was the showstopper for the #Greenwall on Nuke, new acquisition Nikolaj “niko” Kristensen played a solid Cobblestone game and helped secure the Danes the map.  This would leave Complexity lined up against Liquid, and CLG taking on NRG in two elimination best-of-threes.

The story of star performances would continue as Jonathan ‘EliGE’ Jablonowski would finish with a whopping 59-26 KDR across Cache and Nuke, as Team Liquid staved off early elimination and sent Complexity packing.  Similarly Johannes ‘tabseN’ Wodarz would produce 52 frags between Overpass and Dust 2 (though it should be mentioned that Overpass went into overtime).  CLG had an unfortunate consecutive disappointing finish at Northern Arena, as they were eliminated.

On Day 2 of Northern Arena Montreal, we are set to see G2 take on Heroic, as well as OpTic and EnVyUs in two best-of-one winners matches, where the loser of each will play elimination matches against Liquid and NRG respectively.  G2 and EnVyUs would appear to be holding the edge over their opponents; however both Heroic and OpTic have shown to be no strangers to producing exciting upsets in the past.  Stay tuned to Northern Arena on Twitch and make sure to follow on social media for all of the latest news and updates from Montreal.
